On Twitter, I recently saw someone say that they thought professors should make it mandatory for graduate students to read one thing for pleasure every month. As a graduate student that really resonated with me. Not the forcing part... but that there was a value in taking a moment for oneself other than their studies. A mental break.
Over the past few years, I have been acting as an armchair participant in many of the wonderful book challenge lists posted by individuals and companies. My favourite book challenges are the ones that are less prescriptive; categories to read. In that vein, I have constructed my own challenge for this year based on the categories that I have enjoyed.
1) Read 12 books to complete 12 categories.
2) BONUS: convince someone else to read a book from the same category and get together to discuss what you read.
